When Rachele Scholes and her friend Andre Frazier set out on a motorcycle ride last week, they did not expect their night to end in tragedy. Unfortunately, they were in an accident that took Scholes’ life.
Scholes, a former news anchor, was riding on the back of a motorcycle being driven by Frazier when a Ford Taurus turned into the motorcycle’s path. The bike ended up striking the right front of the car. Both Frazier and Scholes were taken to the hospital, but Scholes passed away after being on life support for a short amount of time. Frazier’s injuries are serious but non-life threatening.
Friends and family described Scholes as strong, funny, and intelligent. She will be sorely missed throughout her community.
We brought you this story today because it highlights some of the dangers that motorcyclists face every time they go out for a ride. Do you know what to do if you are injured an accident while riding?
If you need a Miramar motorcycle accident attorney, you can count on the Law Offices of Bradley S. Hartman to be by your side, working to secure the compensation you need.
Florida is a popular place to own a motorcycle. Much of that has to do with the wonderful riding weather we have all year long. That also means that we have a higher number of motorcycle accidents.
These are the numbers for Florida’s latest reporting year:
- 10,331 motorcycle accidents
- 8,256 motorcycle accident injuries
- 515 motorcycle accident fatalities
Almost every time there is a motorcycle accident, there is a fatality or injury. This is because motorcyclists have almost no protection from the force of a vehicle that weighs thousands of pounds slamming into them. When they are struck, they suffer a full impact with the vehicle and the ground. This can lead to serious external and internal injuries that require extensive medical care to fix.
Motorcycle accidents are often caused by driver negligence. In our area, with plenty of tourists from out of state rolling through, our motorcyclists are more susceptible to being hurt by driver mistakes.
Drunk drivers are always going to be a source of concern for motorcyclists, but just as dangerous are drivers who are distracted by their phones, other devices, or other people in their vehicles. Drivers who are careless on the roadways are a danger.
